He himself cannot speak clearly, so his grandfather Yuriy Arkadyevich, who came with him, tells the whole interview.

– What was life like before the war? What prompted you to go and defend Ukraine? In which brigade did he serve?

– Sasha finished 11th grade and went to a lyceum in Kherson. His profession is a master of setting up refrigeration systems. In June 2017, Sasha turned 18 years old. On the 26th he received a diploma, and on the 29th he was already in Nikolaev, in training of marines. He was convinced that he did not want Russia to be in the east. – With pride in his eyes, the grandfather tells about his grandson. The fact is that in 2013 I worked in Sudak on a pleasure boat, people rode around the South Coast. First, his wife came with the younger ones, and then Sasha for 10 days, he was then 13-14 years old, and so the Crimea fell into his soul. He rode with me on the ship, and there is beauty: ancient fortresses destroyed, Koktebel, Golitsyn trail…
Then, I remember, Sasha said that he wanted to rest only in the Crimea!

– How did your relatives react to the decision to go to war? Did you try to refuse or did you support it immediately?

– I refused him service, the military man too. They asked you to go at least to the sea border guards – you will serve in Skadovsk. And he said, “No, I want to join the Marines, that’s all.” Sanka is stubborn, if he decided – he did. But he went to the army pumped up. Before that, he did not get out of the gym. He was a strong guy.

– When did you find out about the injury? What was the reaction, the first emotions?

– It was September 11, 2018. I was at work, in the port on a ship. The head of our village council called me and told me what had happened to Sasha. He was a machine gunner, had a night fight and was wounded. As soon as I learned this news, I immediately went to the Dnieper and from September 12, 2019 almost always with him. When he saw his grandson in the intensive care unit, he did not have a small heart attack – everything was swollen and, like eggplant, blue. A pile of wires protruded from it, and next to it a pile of equipment. He had a major brain injury. With the penetration of fragments of the skull into the tissue: the bullet went into the forehead and came out through the back of the head. In the Dnieper hospital named after Mechnikov performed 3 operations. – Yuri Arkadyevich reluctantly remembers, and his eyes gradually begin to shine with tears. Chief physician Serhiy Ryzhenko wrote a post on his Facebook page: “On September 10, a sniper was wounded in the head near the village of Sakhanka. Through brain injury. Coma of the III degree. Life only with the help of medicines and equipment. Without any hope, military medics took the soldier to Mechnikov’s hospital. All night and the next morning, neurosurgeons and anesthesiologists rescued a fatally damaged brain. After operations and a week of struggle in the intensive care unit, Sasha comes out of a coma, opened his eyes… ”

– How was the rehabilitation after the hospital? Where have you been already?

– For the first time we went to Lviv for rehabilitation. He weighed up to 38 kilograms during the first three months. But rehabilitation specialists there are really good. I am very grateful to them. Attention is awesome, I’ve never seen patients raised like that.

– How did you find out about our Next Step Ukraine center?

– When we were in Nikolaev and we needed rehabilitation we from Lviv gave a direction to Odessa, and in Nikolaev gave a direction back to Lviv. They have already refused and said that they will accept only after Odessa. That’s why we stayed there and the woman Svitlana, who serves in the special forces, works in the personnel, said that she would talk to the commander about rehabilitation in Irpen and the Baltic countries. The next day, a volunteer from Kyiv, Timur, called. He said that everyone gave feedback, but in the Baltic countries it is a long wait. So after waiting our turn, we arrived at Next Step. Before that, I also heard a lot of recommendations and reviews about your center, really wanted to get and got. Equipment like you have never seen before. We are very pleased. Sasha said “Bomb” two days later. He himself cannot speak clearly, so his grandfather Yuriy Arkadyevich, who came with him, tells the whole interview.
